For the love of art

With many masterpieces, the appreciation of their aesthetic evolves over time yet PGH Bricks & Pavers™ has released a new Masters collection to offer bricks of extraordinary texture and timeless beauty that can be enjoyed and admired today.

PGH Bricks & Pavers, one of Australia’s largest and most innovative brick makers, is excited to introduce the Masters collection, one of four new brick collections launched onto the Australian market in the past year. PGH has raised the bar on what to expect from humble bricks, extending your ability to enduringly capture your personality and sense of style within the fašade of your home.

For many reasons including their sustainability, durability and thermal mass face brick remains a strong contender as the preferred building material for new homes and renovations. The Masters collection celebrates this art of traditional brick making with a modern twist.

Sandstone bricks are one of the original hand crafted bricks used from the times of the early Australian colony creating a lasting legacy of honesty, timelessness and beauty in Australia’s architecture.

Over the decades, decorative features in the fašades around these sandstocks have changed as fashion trends emerge and then disappear, but the beauty of the sandstock brick has remained unchanged. Sandstocks are also a solid brick, making them a better choice to insulate your home from the noises and temperatures of Australia’s environment. Like any fired product, the colour of these bricks is baked through the product ensuring they will endure the ravages of time and the elements.

Retaining the extraordinary texture they are known for, the new bricks from the Masters collection have been reshaped to be squarer with a more regular appearance than their traditional sandstock counterparts. The heavy fritting on the surface of the brick has been removed to create a more monochromatic finish to the end colour.

The Masters collection is named after some of the world’s most celebrated artists. The collection consists of five new bricks – Da Vinci, Monet, Picasso, Renoir and Van Gogh. Like the works of these great masters, each brick produced in the Masters collection is crafted by a ‘brickmaster’ who has trained for years to perfect the art of brick making.

These bricks are available in the standard 76mm height or the increasingly popular 50mm height. The Masters collection is also available in different shapes to enable you to create your own masterpiece.

PGH Bricks & Pavers Group Marketing Manager, Michelle Gissel, said that while it is early days, the range has been positively received. Due to the timeless appearance yet fresh look of this collection, building designers have started selecting the Masters collection to incorporate into the fašades of their display homes.

“I think they have realised that for less than the cost of render or stack-stone products, incorporating these products into a fašade creates a look that is not only unique, stylish and enduring but makes good economic sense,” said Michelle. “The soft grey tone of Da Vinci has been the most popular to date but there has been interest in the collection right across the colour spectrum.”

A collection for every home

In cooperation with Colourways, one of Australia’s leading colour forecasting groups, as well as architects and designers, PGH has recently launched four new collections. Apart from the Masters collection, the other releases are the Alchemy, Vibrant and Academy collections. Each new collection meets a different demand for designer aesthetics.

Alchemy
The Alchemy collection consists of three products with remarkable metallic-like finishes. There is the industrial look of Pewter, the pure fabulousness of Glamour and the luxury of Molten Gold. The shimmering appearance and wire cut texture of these bricks allows them to subtly change colour depending on how the light hits their exterior surface.

Vibrant
The Vibrant collection stands out for its palette of fun and funky colours placing a whole new perspective on bricks and the way they are used. Finished with a full ceramic glaze these bricks are perfect for internal or external use. The collection consists of seven vital colours - Cosmic, Fizz, Paris, Wasabi, Rhapsody, Tango and Watermelon. Try Paris pink for girls and Rhapsody blue for boys, or create an eye-catching mosaic by using a combination of all.

Academy
Academy is also a full ceramic glazed collection that provides a sleek look for your next building project. The palette of five colours is refined, dark and sophisticated. Each colour is inspired by excellence and achievement – Alumni, Julliard, Nobel, Oscar and Quantum.

Brick has long been a popular choice with architects and building designers because it blends easily with existing buildings while offering endless opportunities for individual design. Since the 1950s, modern building design has significantly evolved in line with the demands of our changing lifestyles and the latest trends in open plan living are easily achieved with brick.

“The commonplace red and cream bricks don’t necessarily suit modern home designs which has led to new colours and finishes being developed for the sophisticated design market,” said Michelle. “Bricks are becoming more feminine and women tend to be the main decision makers with brick purchases.”

“Generally speaking, women are more focused on the colour and appearance of the brick in relation to the exterior look of the home, to reflect an image of how they want to be perceived,” she added. “The external elements of the house are the first thing they see everyday when they enter their driveway and it’s the statement that their family, friends, neighbours and passersby will make their judgements on.”
