Eco-friendly design to suit your lifestyle

Modern lifestyles demand innovative design to match our growing environmental consciousness. New technologies are now being incorporated into fans and lighting without compromising gorgeous design.

In a major innovation for ceiling fan design, the Australian-owned and operated Beacon Lighting has worked with an Australian engineer to develop a retractable-blade ceiling fan with an energy efficient T5 light.

The Evo 1 Prevail from Fanaway is an advanced ceiling fan with unique aesthetics and energy efficient design. When switched off the traditionally intrusive fan-blades automatically retract and conceal, and visually the unit transforms into a slim, modern light pendant. Turning the fan on creates a centrifugal force that deploys the blades to circulate air within the room.

According to Beacon Lighting, Fanaway creates open space in the room environment, accumulates less dust, and visually integrates into most building interiors. Fanaway is finished in chrome, brushed-chrome or white and has clear acrylic blades.

BeaconApart from providing a clutter free overhead environment, Fanaway provides a very different visual appearance to standard ceiling fans or lights. Using quality materials and finishes, Fanaway sets its own standard from an interior design and styling perspective.

The Fanaway fan is very easy to clean as you simply pull the blades out when the fan is off (according to the manufacturer’s instructions) and wipe them down with warm soapy water or Windex on a cloth. Fanaway has three speeds with the option of a wall switch or remote control.

Envirolux

Beacon Lighting’s Envirolux range includes a large array of modern fittings and globes that have been designed to fit energy saving CFL (see box) globes. They achieve outstanding performance, using 80% less electricity than conventional incandescent globes.

With pendant lights becoming increasingly desirable, particularly over island benches and eating areas, the Envirolux range includes two stunning statement pieces.

The Envirolux Sayama Pendant is an energy saving T5 21wt or 28wt fluorescent pendant finished in a brushed aluminium with frost and super clear glass. It is available in two lengths – 900mm or 1200mm.

The Envirolux Terrasini Pendant (pictured) is an energy saving T5 14 wt or 21wt fluorescent pendant finished in a brushed aluminium with super clear glass. It measures 690mm or 990mm in length.

Compact Fluroescent Lamps

Energy saving is about reducing the wattage used in a light fitting whilst maintaining the same light output. There are many types of energy saving globes currently on the market. One very popular and widely used example is Compact Fluorescent Lamps or CFLs, which are simply fluorescent tubes bent into shape to fit into standard light fittings.

Early in their development, CFLs had a stark, harsh light. However, new CFLs are equal or superior to normal incandescent globes. CFLs are now available in warm white, cool white or super bright daylight to suit the look, feel and use of your home. CFLs also last longer with the range of globes offering a life of 5000 hours (5 years) to 15,000 hours (15 years).
