Colour trends to warm the winter garden

Whatever your incentive, maybe you want to showcase your gardening skills or just make sure the kids are attracted to playing in the backyard during the cooler months, you’ll benefit from making some clever colour choices for your garden this winter.

A winter garden is a time of renewal when the last of the autumn leaves have fallen leaving many trees bare and their trunks exposed bringing hues of grey and brown. The garden awaits the flush of spring colour and summer foliage.

Adding colour to a garden is not limited to plants and pots, there are many other options available to you. Consider adding colour and interest with garden furniture or hard surfaces such as patterned paving, feature screens and modern fencing.

Colorbond fencing TIP: Try potting containers with winter-flowering plants or variegated foliage and positioning them close to the house to give a better colour impression for the whole backyard.

Installing a fence made from COLORBOND® steel can add colour and warmth to the garden. The colours in the COLORBOND steel range include soft neutrals, traditional heritage tones and cool crisp colours. This allows you to complement elements of your home with the garden for a more holistic look.

According to BlueScope Steel, the manufacturers of COLORBOND steel, it is important to use colours in the garden or on the exterior of the home that reflect the latest trends but do not date quickly.

“Fencing made from COLORBOND steel is available in 14 designer colours with neutrals Riversand, Domain and Terrace being on-trend this year,” said Greg Jones, Regional Business Development Manager, Bluescope Steel. “Whereas, neutrals create calm and balance the more frantic aspects of life.”

Neutrals can also be contrasted with the strong, accent colours. A neutral-coloured fence can be balanced with guttering, downpipes, fascias, wall cladding or garage doors in darker blues, such as the navy inspired Deep Ocean, or even deep green such as Cottage Green.

Brightening the garden in winter, a fence made from COLORBOND steel will work all year round to create a complementary backdrop for a blooming spring garden. In contemporary homes, fence colours can be stronger and include deep greys, rustic reds and rich greens. Colour choices from COLORBOND steel include Grey Ridge, Red Oak and Evergreen.

“Installing a fence made from COLORBOND steel is not only a great way to give your backyard a lift in winter, it’s also very low maintenance because of its incredibly resilient pre-painted finish,” added Greg.

Fences from COLORBOND steel are made to last and are backed by a 10-year warranty* from Bluescope Steel. Solid steel fencing resists the elements, cannot be eaten by termites or borers, and can provide a useful, non-combustible barrier against bushfires.
