Perform better this summer

BlueScope Steel, the leader in innovative roofing materials, has released the next generation of COLORBOND® steel to provide a new level of improved thermal performance for Australian homes.

COLORBOND® steel’s new Thermatech® technology helps to improve the energy efficiency of homes and reduce energy bills by reflecting more of the sun’s heat. This advancement keeps the roofspace cooler and provides greater thermal comfort indoors.

The use of Thermatech® technology means that on average across the entire colour range, there is a reduction in solar absorption of five per cent.

A company spokesperson said COLORBOND® steel has seven colours from its standard colour palette classified as light or very light under BASIX and the Building Code of Australia’s colour classification.

“With the addition of Thermatech® technology, the greatest improvement in thermal performance is in the dark colour range,” the spokesperson said. “This means that homeowners now have a greater choice of colours and in some parts of Australia, a reduced need for the amount of insulation required to meet building regulations.”

“The product lends itself to innovative design, so buildings can be constructed with better natural airflow,” he added.

bluescope colorbondCOLORBOND® steel’s durability and versatility has made it a popular building material to work with for more than 40 years. It continues to facilitate innovative and contemporary design solutions across the country.

The 2009 National Design Awards, held by the Building Designers Association of Australia, had 10 of the 16 award winning projects featuring COLORBOND® steel products in their designs.

BlueScope Steel backs its next generation of COLORBOND® steel with a number of improved warranty offers across applications such as roofing, walling, and gutters and downpipes.

Solution for bushfire zones

BlueScope Steel has unveiled a new roofing system that can be used by residents in extreme bushfire zones in accordance with the strict new Australian Standard for the Construction of Buildings in Bushfire Prone Areas.

The system comprises roofing made from COLORBOND® steel, timber roof battens, plywood insulating board, timber trusses, fire resistant plasterboard and timber fascia, all assembled and detailed in a prescribed manner.

“Steel is a natural material of choice in bushfire conditions as it is strong, durable, non-combustible and will not twist or warp in extreme heat,” said a BlueScope Steel spokesperson.

The solution is the result of collaboration between BlueScope Steel, Forest and Wood Products Australia Limited and Promat Australia Pty Ltd.
