Avoid the summer heatwave

When the heat of the outdoors becomes too much this summer there is no reason you need to still feel uncomfortable when you retreat indoors.

Comfortable – that’s what you want your home to be, a place where you and your family can kick off your shoes, sit back, relax and feel great.

Last year, Australia experienced warmer than normal conditions throughout January with temperatures in some regions lasting for days well above 40C.

Typically homeowners took to purchasing air-conditioning units to provide instant relief, though a more cost-effective measure to achieve a cooler home and maintain a comfortable temperature is installing ceiling insulation.

airconditioning Bradford insulation can keep your home up to seven degrees cooler in summer and prevent up to 70 per cent of heat transfers in the home making it easier and cheaper to maintain a regular and comfortable temperature.

Bradford Group marketing manager, Ray Thompson, finds it hard to believe that in a country that can experience temperatures past 40C, more than 35 per cent of Australian homes do not have ceiling insulation.

“Installing insulation will make the home more comfortable and increase the energy efficiency of the air condition unit, and in turn reduce energy costs,” Ray said.

Heating and cooling account for around 38 per cent of a typical home’s energy use. As insulation works as a barrier to heat transfer, you will use your air-conditioning (or heating) much less, significantly reducing your energy bills.

According to Bradford, a large 300m2 home can save up to 80 per cent of heating and cooling costs, and a smaller 150m2 home saves up to 60 per cent compared to an uninsulated home. With energy costs predicted to rise in the near future, making your home more energy efficient is a great investment to save money over the long term.

The federal government’s Energy Efficient Homes Package offers ceiling insulation up to the value of $1600 to Australian homes, cutting household energy bills by an average of $200 a year and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

To qualify for the rebate, you must have the insulation completed by a registered installer. Bradford has one of the most experienced, well established and comprehensive network of installers across Australia. Bradford ‘Comfortchoice’ installers are fully trained and registered in accordance with government requirements and have also completed stringent training programs.

“The free Bradford Comfortchoice website program can navigate consumers through a range of energy efficient products available to help them make an informed choice on how comfortable and energy efficient they want their homes to be,” Ray said.
